JMS goes (lime) green

Phase 3 of the TV studio rolled out recently – a permanent green infinity cove – 25ft wide, 11ft high, with a 90 degree curve at its centre.

JMS creates a considerable amount of graphics-based advertising where Colour Separation Overlay is absolutely essential, and although so far we've managed with a selection of portable screens and curtains, this latest development has been keenly awaited.

The building work was completed in a record three 14-hour days (including a Bank Holiday as our builder kept reminding us...), but drying the plaster and applying four coats of emulsion took a further four days and consumed over 40 litres of specialist, light-reflective Optic green paint.

And the reason for the hurry? Only hours after it dried, the first commercial was being shot – and with no less than 7 dancers rehearsing and recording a selection of jive routines, the new set-up was given quite a road-test!

"The shoot was a huge success – the combination of the Sony EX camera and this new green screen makes for flawless keying" reported Producer Luke Witcomb "and it's just great to be able to use the full width of the studio at last."
