Engineers Give JMS the Green Light

31st October 2009

Sustainability. Do I care?

May Gurney does.

This national infrastructure services company needed to convince its 4000+ workforce of the importance of sustainability for people, the planet and its profit.

Our challenge was to tackle green issues in a thought provoking but entertaining way. So the scenario JMS proposed might not seem, on the face of it, to hit either of those targets: a monologue in a portakabin. As the aim was to reach the widest possible range of workers, we argued that it would be far more accessible to explore the relevance of sustainability through the scepticism of a middle manager as opposed to simply delivering the assertions of the Board.

Actor Steve Brody (The Office, I'm Alan Partridge, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps) delivered the role with perfect comic timing, in a JMS studio-set which exactly captured the sort of chaotic site-office any engineer would recognise.

May Gurney premiered the programme to its senior management just four days after shooting finished. And the result? Green lights all the way!
