Essex Feeling the Heat

31st October 2009

Heat.

You can't see it.
You can't hear it.
You can't touch it.
You can't taste it.

So how do you illustrate it in a TV commercial?

Simple, you get JMS on the case. At the request of Anglian, our task was to capture evidence of heat loss from the home of an Essex householder.

For this JMS used a thermal imaging camera. The walls showed cool green whilst the windows glowed vivid red. Anglian then installed completely new windows and the experiment was repeated. The windows now showed as a cool green.

On seeing these images, Anglian Marketing Director Martin Troughton knew this HAD to form part of a TV advertising campaign. As he said, "it's never been so obvious that with inefficient windows people are paying to heat the street!" And so the Anglian national 'scrappage' scheme was born.

To make sure the claims were 100% accurate for TV, an independent invigilator, David McKenna of Build Check Ltd, supervised the data-capture.

The campaign has been a massive success, and its exposure has recently been extended well into 2010.
